Z5479 Large Colonial Era Tombac Button
Description: Large excavated Colonial Era "Tombac” button with an integrally cast copper wire shank. Tice states that Tombac consists of 84-90% copper with 10-15% zinc plus arsenic. These buttons are fragile but extremely resistant to corrosion. This appears to be a non-excavated example but is actually a very clean excavated specimen. These buttons date to the last half of the eighteenth century through the early 1800’s.
