Z5483 Colonial Era "Tombac” Button
Description: Nice medium size Colonial Era "Tombac” button with an integrally cast copper wire shank. Tice states that Tombac consists of 84-90% copper with 10-15% zinc plus arsenic. These buttons are fragile but extremely resistant to corrosion. This example has a slightly pushed shank. These buttons date to the last half of the eighteenth century through the early 1800’s.
