Z5614 .52 Billinghurst & Requa Battery Cartridge
Description: Non-excavated cartridge for the 25-barrel Billinghurst & Requa Battery/ Machine Gun. This gun was patented by William Billinghurst and Josephus Requa on September 16, 1862, under Patent No. 36,448. The gun was patented under an improvement to platoon batteries. The reloadable brass casings were loaded with waterproof skin cartridges and held in place by a long hinge clip. All 25 barrels would fire at once. Nice example with a very small chip on the case mouth. You can still see lubricant in the first cannelure near the case mouth.
