Z5692 Civil War Frankford Arsenal Time Fuse Packet (5 Seconds)
Description: Original packet of five original Civil War paper time fuses manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal. In late 1862, all paper time fuse production shifted to the Frankford Arsenal for standardization. Jones added a shortened quote in his book stating, "To secure uniformity in size and rate of burning, …all paper time fuses will be made at…Frankford Arsenal.” From 1863-1865 paper time fuses were manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal in a variety of colorful packets with various burn times.
This packet contains five original Civil War paper time fuses. They are contained in a paper-wrapped, drilled, wooden block. This packet was manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal in 1863 and has a pinkish/tan wrapper lightly coated in a waterproofing agent. This example is in nice shape with light soiling. All five cloth pull tabs are still present. It is unwrapped with very little damage to the outer paper wrapper.
Measures: 3” x 2” x ¾”
