Z5705 Scarce .50 Smith Carbine Ammunition Box
Description: Scarce empty box that once contained 10 .50 rubberized cartridges for the .50 Smith’s breech-loading carbine. This box is constructed of pasteboard with a printed label that is glued to the top, sides, and partially along the bottom edges. The box is opened on the left, right, and bottom seams. The top seam is intact and hinges open. The left side pasteboard is missing, and the outer wrapper is left in place. The left side bar contains the original patent date of June 20, 1857. The right side bar contains the re-issued date of September 14, 1858. There are a few variants of this style of box with slightly different lettering. A hard-to-find Civil War cartridge packet. The interior of the label reads as follows:
