Description: Here is a decent local attic find that came out of a house in Shepherdstown, West Virginia along with a few other items. This is known as a triangular socket bayonet and was used on the M1835/M1842 .69 muskets. This example is in "as found” condition. There is an even layer of rust covering the entire piece. The locking ring is frozen in place. Looking at the blade under a bright light, there is still some shiny spots showing through. The bottom of the blade is clearly marked "US.” A great local piece that recently surfaced out of an attic here in town!
