Z5882 .38 Short Cartridges, American Metallic Cartridge Company
Description: Very nice full and correct box of fifty .38-100 Short rimfire "Target” cartridges manufactured by The American Metallic Cartridge Company. The label consists of cream, black and white print. The box consists of a blue-pattern, two-piece box with a red seal. The only issues with this box are that it’s open and missing the top right side of the lid. All other components are intact including the original insert which is quite rare. The cartridges are still covered in lubricant which has turned to a powder at this point.

The American Metallic Cartridge Company was incorporated on July 22, 1891. However, according to Krasnickas’s book, "The first record of the "American” brand name was recorded in Henry Mason’s daybook on October 17, 1883.” This is one of the earlier boxes with the insert and would date to the late 1880’s and possibly into the very early 1890’s. The label on this example is top notch!
