Z6061 Early (8) .69 Musket Ball Gang Mold Marked N.E.
Description: Exceptional early gang mold that casts eight .69 musket balls. This mold would date from the late 1700’s into the early 1800’s. It measures 16” in overall length and weighs 3lbs. 14ozs. It is marked "NE” on the bottom of one block. The other block is marked with a "5” on the side. The octagonal handle on the right is marked with a Roman numeral "IVX” on the top.
This piece is in great condition overall and still retains both original wooden handles which aren’t cracked. The iron ferrule on the left handle is loose. All cavities are in excellent shape and the friction fit wedge is missing. There is a modern sample pour still in the mold. The balls measure approximately .688” in diameter. The craftsmanship on this example is exceptional for a run of the mill gang mold. This would fit right in with any War of 1812 Era display.
