Description: Decent quadrangular bayonet for use with the M1854 Austrian rifled musket. This example has a star on the shank and was manufactured at the Vienna Arsenal. The M1854 rifled musket was imported by both sides during the Civil War. This example has an overall length of 22” with a 19” blade. The locking ring is free, and the socket has a squared Type I bridge opening. This bayonet has a dark brown patina with a thin layer of uniform rust with light pitting throughout. Some would classify this as an early "barn” find. The blade appears to have been lightly cleaned many years ago.
Marked: "*” on the shank or elbow.
Measures: OAL 22” with a blade of 19”
