Z6247 .32 Long "Cone Base” Rimfire Cartridge (Merwin’s Patent)
Description: Very nice .32 Long rimfire cartridge with a cone or deep-dish base. These were manufactured by the Phoenix Metallic Cartridge Company under Joseph Merwin’s Patent No. 175,293 of March 28, 1876. The purpose of the dish or cone base was to prevent swelling of the head when fired. This example has a pointed bullet with a single cannelure. The dish is approximately .085” deep.
