Description: Nice example of the .56-52 Spencer rimfire cartridge manufactured by Charles D. Leet. Charles Leet was a cartridge manufacturer located in Springfield, Massachusetts. He manufactured several types of cartridges during the American Civil War and eventually sold his business to Schuyler, Hartley, and Graham in 1865. Barber states that Leet "was listed as a cartridge manufacturer in 1866-1867." The .56-52 Spencer cartridge is easily identifiable by the slightly necked casing. These .56-52 cartridges by Leet are scarcer than your typical .56-50 cartridges. This example has an oxidized projectile. The headstamp is clear with a single tic mark and tooling marks from spinning the cartridge.
Headstamp: Impressed "C.D.L.” with one tic mark
