Z6448 .54 Burnside Carbine Cartridge
Description: Nice example of the Civil War .54 Burnside carbine cartridge. This cartridge design was patented by George Foster on April 10, 1860, and is listed under Patent No. 27,791. The "swell” around the case mouth held lubricant. These would have been used in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Model carbines. This example is in great shape with a few very nominal dents. Normally the "swell” is dented due to the way they were packaged. The case on this example has a nice dark tone. A great Civil War cartridge!
