Z6459 10.35MM Swiss Jagergewehr Cartridge, M1856
Description: Very nice paper cartridge for the 10.35mm (.407) M1856 Swiss rifle. Unlike the M1851 cartridge, the M1856 cartridge is contained in one single wrap of paper. Per Hoyem, the "powder charge is separated from the bullet by an inner paper cylinder. The bullet end is lubricated, and the tail is folded over on one end. This cartridge is like the earlier M1851 Feldstutzer cartridge which was a two-piece cartridge. The main difference is the outer paper wrapper covering both the bullet and powder charge. A fine Swiss paper cartridge! These were not used in the American Civil War but is a cartridge of the era!
