Z6543 .50-50-500 Experimental Rimfire Cartridge F.A.
Description: Very nice cartridge known as the experimental .50-50-500 cartridge. These were originally thought to be produced at the Frankford Arsenal for their trials in the mid-1860’s. Dean Thomas has it listed as being manufactured at the Springfield Armory in 1864-1865. This cartridge also shows up in the trays of the Philadelphia Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876. It has a lead bullet with two inverted cannelures or grooves and a copper case. This one has nice chatter on the depressed head and ripples in the copper casing on one side of the case mouth. An excellent early experimental cartridge!
Headstamp: None with chatter marks
