Z6558 .56-52 Spencer Shot Cartridge (USCCo./AMCCo)
Description: Very nice .56-52 shot cartridge. These were sold in boxes marked as American Metallic Cartridge Company with a copper case made by the United States Cartridge Company. The shot is held in a tan or peach colored paper sabot. The sabot patent was held by Henry W. Mason of South Coventry, Connecticut. He was awarded Patent No. 219,491 dated September 9, 1879. A nice example with a harder to find headstamp. Most of these shot cartridges have the "H” Winchester headstamp or the "U” U.M.C. headstamp. The OAL of this one is between a single charge and double charge length.
Headstamp: Raised "US” in a depressed circle.
