Z6357 12Ga. Brass Harpoon Gun Cartridge (Hart’s Patent 1873)
Description: Scarce 12Ga. or 12A brass harpoon gun or line throwing cartridge manufactured under George Hart’s patent. Interestingly, there is no US Patent awarded to George E. Hart on September 23, 1873. There is one example listed in an old Buttweiler catalogue. He states, "We are not convinced that this is in fact a shotgun shell: others have suggested that it was for the line-throwing gun or standard rifle. However, it has a "shotshell” look to it.”
Hard-to-find shell with very thick walls. The case is slightly tapered and unprimed. The headstamp is legible with a couple of dings around the edges. The cartridge appears to have been lacquered at one time and has some stains or lightly coated areas.
Headstamp: Impressed "GEO E. HART PAT’D / 12A / SEP. 23.73 NEWARK, N.J.”
Measures: OAL 2.306” RD .836” HD .808” CM .750”
