Z6890 .38 Long Rimfire Cartridge Mead’s Patent Explosive Tip Bullet
Description: Very nice .38 Long rimfire cartridge with a .22 blank inserted into the nose of the projectile. This example has the improved explosive bullet patented by S.H. Mead Jr. on December 10, 1872. These bullets were cast with a hollow nose cavity. This allowed a .22 rimfire blank to be inserted into the nose. Upon impact, the rim would be crushed, and the bullet would explode. This is quite a scarce cartridge that was cleaned an lacquered.
