Z6998 .44 Martin-Primed Cartridge for S&W No. 3 Revolver (N.A.)
Description: Nice .44 Martin-primed cartridge manufactured at the National Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. These were manufactured for use with the .44 Smith & Wesson No. 3 "American” Revolver. It has the 1871 re-entrant fold at the rim accompanied by a flat primer. These cartridges have a 225-grain .44 bullet with 25-grains of powder. This example has a flat nose lead bullet and a copper case. A nice Indian War variant!
The difference between the National Armory and Frankford Arsenal examples is the case and overall length. Suydam states, "Frankford Arsenal cases are about .055” longer than those of the National Armory; overall length varies by about the same amount.
