Description: Here is a very nice Civil War Gallager cartridge manufactured under Jackson’s patent. Samuel Jackson was awarded U.S. Patent No. 45,830 on January 10, 1865, for an improvement in cartridge casings. These cartridges were manufactured with a tinned iron lining wrapped in paper. The idea behind the patent was to create a gas check eliminating the escape of any gas while firing. These cartridges are coated which is described in the patent text. This example is in very nice condition and still retains a light color. An excellent combustible cartridge of the late Civil War Era!
Measures: D .553” OAL 2.060”
