Z7587 Aqua F. Brown’s Ess of Jamaica Ginger Bottle (Fort Buford)
Description: This is one of several items recovered from the Fort Buford privies. Fort Buford is located at the confluence of the Missouri & Yellowstone rivers in what is North Dakota today. The fort was established in 1866 and decommissioned in 1895. Sitting Bull surrendered here in 1881.
This aqua cork top bottle once contained essence of Jamaica Ginger. The front is embossed "F BROWN’S / ESS OF / JAMAICA GINGER / PHILADA.” The base has an open iron pontil mark. There are plenty of bubbles in the bottle and it’s free of major chips or cracks. The surface has light scratches which are typical of a dug bottle. An excellent Indian War Era relic from a privy!
