Z7617 Pre-WWI US Army M-1903 Graniteware Mess Cup

Description: Decent example of what is often referred to as the M-1903 Graniteware mess cup. This is one of many styles that were used on an experimental basis prior to WWI and the invention of the nesting cup and canteen. The graniteware cups were short lived, as they were found to be poisonous when used with highly acidic foods.

This example still retains quite a bit of the enamel finish. There are typical chips around the edge and around the base. The bottom of the cup is lightly stamped "US.”
