Z7623 Aqua Ayer’s Sarsaparilla Compound Extract Bottle
Description: This is one of several items recovered from the Fort Buford privies. Fort Buford is located at the confluence of the Missouri & Yellowstone rivers in what is North Dakota today. The fort was established in 1866 and decommissioned in 1895. Sitting Bull surrendered here in 1881.
This aqua cork top bottle once contained Sarsaparilla Compound Extract sold by J.C.Ayer Company of Lowell, Massachusetts. The sides are embossed, "AYER’S / COMPOUND EXT / LOWELL MASS. U.S.A. / SARSAPARILLA.” There are plenty of bubbles and swirls in the glass along with some remaining dirt. An excellent Indian War Era relic direct from a privy!
