Z7703 Aqua Igloo Inkwell Bottle (Fort Pembina)
Description: This is one of several items recovered from the Fort Pembina privies. Fort Pembina was located just west of the Red River and was built to watch over the Sioux and to ensure the safety of those living along the Red River. The fort was completed in 1870/71 and caught on fire in 1895. Some of the troops assisted in suppressing a Fenian Raid into Canada. The privies were full of items dating from the Civil War up through the Indian War era.
Nice, excavated aqua igloo inkwell. This example has a single mold mark the entire way around. It has a sheared lip spout and there is one small chip on the edge of the base. A nice example of an Indian War era inkwell.
