Z7705 Maynard Tape Primer Tube, Massachusetts Arms Company
Description: Scarce example of the large size Maynard Tape Primer Tube manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This example has a brass lid and base with a tin body that is soldered on one side. The embossed lid reads, "MAYNARD'S PATENT / SEP. 22. 1845. / MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS. CO / CHICOPEE. FALLS / MASS."
Overall, this is a nice example that still contains 6 full rolls and a single partial roll. The caps manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company are orange in color and were never fully wrapped like the examples produced at the Frankford Arsenal. Instead, a paper band was tightly twisted around each roll. This tin is the taller version used with muskets and carbines fitted with a Maynard percussion system. There is one small, dented area near the mouth of the case where the tin is lighter in color.
Measures: D 1.045” L 2.371”
