Z7878 Indian War Aqua Cone Inkwell (Fort Pembina)
Description: This is one of several items recovered from the Fort Pembina privies. Fort Pembina was located just west of the Red River and was built to watch over the Sioux and to ensure the safety of those living along the Red River. The fort was completed in 1870/71 and caught on fire in 1895. Some of the troops assisted in suppressing a Fenian Raid into Canada. The privies were full of items dating from the Civil War up through the late Indian War era.

This is a very nice smooth sided, cone shaped aqua inkwell recovered from the privies at Fort Pembina. This example would have used a cork stopper. There is a mold seam running along the base and sides. The base is lightly embossed "A&F” along with "11.” The "A&F” stands for Adams & Fey of Cleveland, Ohio. This example has a few great swirls on the lip and is free of chips and cracks. An excellent Indian War artifact!
