Z8114 Federal Regulation 1839 Pattern US Cartridge Box Plate (Bill Gavin/Salem Church)
Description: Nice example of an early excavated cartridge box plate. This example has a flat body with no dings or dents. The back retains nearly all the lead solder and both iron attachment loops. The face has a slick patina underneath a layer of dirt. This plate was dug by the legendary Bill Gavin at the Battle of Salem Church in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Gavin’s medical tape tag is still on the back with "SALEM CHURCH / BARTLETT’S BRIGADE” written in blue ink. There is another label that provides the same information. A very nice example dug at the position of Bartlett’s Brigade at Salem Church!
Measures: 54mm x 86mm
Recovered: Battle of Salem Church Virginia by Bill Gavin
