Z8193 Early 1800’s Artillery Percussion Quill Primer
Description: Very nice example of an early 1800’s Artillery percussion primer. These quill primers were used in conjunction with an artillery lock fixed on the back of a cannon. The quill primer would be placed in the vent hole with the tab containing fulminate resting on top of the tube. When the hammer struck the primer, the circular tab would combust, sending a flame through the quill and into the powder charge. This style of quill primer would predate the "L” shaped percussion primers and the later friction primers.
