Z8399 .44 Bartholow Patent Cartridge for the .44 Colt Army Revolver
Description: Excellent example of the rare .44 Bartholow’s patented cartridge used in the .44 Colt "Army” revolver. This style of cartridge was patented by Roberts Bartholow on May 21, 1861, as U.S. Patent No. 32,345. The manufacturing process was like that of the Hazard's patented cartridge. This example has a pointed lead bullet with a single cannelure and a rebated base. The powder was formed into a cake and attached to the rear of the bullet with a silk strip. The cartridge was then coated making it waterproof and flammable. This example is in excellent condition. There is no separation in the silk between the powder cake and the bullet. You would be hard pressed to upgrade this example!
