Description: Very nice .56-52 shot cartridge. These were sold in boxes marked as American Metallic Cartridge Company with a copper case made by the United States Cartridge Company. The shot is held in a tan or peach colored paper sabot. The sabot patent was held by Henry W. Mason of South Coventry, Connecticut. He was awarded Patent No. 219,491 dated September 9, 1879. A nice example with a harder to find headstamp. Most of these shot cartridges have the "H” Winchester headstamp or the "U” U.M.C. headstamp. This one has a lightly soiled sabot with some spotting on the copper case.
Headstamp: Raised "US” within an impressed circle.
