Description: Very nice, early one-piece pewter button with a raised anchor. This piece has a verbal provenance of Connecticut and was once in the collection of William Rose. There has been some stabilization around the edge creating a slight raised border. This button does appear to have a decent mold line running across the back and along the sides of the shank. This is very similar to the early US manufactured buttons of the time. This piece could very well be an early Navy button or could be an early Merchant button as well. Either way, it does have American traits.
