Z5769 Model 1872 Enlisted Man's Waist Belt Plate
Description: Decent "attic” condition enlisted man’s waist belt with buckle. This piece was recently pulled out of an attic in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. It’s still caked in dirt and grime and is in "as found” condition. This style of waist belt plate was used from 1872 up to 1902.

There are a few different traits that help differentiate an Indian War belt from an earlier version. The keeper bar will have an elongated belt hole with rounded ends while the earlier pattern had squared ends. The adjustor hook will be round and affixed to the belt with two rivets and the earlier pattern hook will be flat and affixed with two to three brass rivets.

This belt still retains the buckle, adjustor loop, and keeper bar. With that being said, the portion of the belt with the keeper bar has broken off. The plate is in very nice shape and hasn’t even been cleaned. It’s still just as dirty as when it was found!
