Z6331 Bland Style Punt Gun Shell with Dovetail Head
Description: Decent but relatively scarce British "Punt Gun” cartridge. For lack of a better term, I’m calling this a "Bland” style shell although it was used in a few different punt guns. This example was manufactured for use in punt guns with a Moore & Grey breech-loading conversion. The dovetailed head slips into a slot in the breech and is screwed into the barrel just like a breech plug. It’s ignited by a single .380 blank cartridge.
This "Punt Gun” shell is made of a brass head measuring 1.957” in diameter, and a paper tube measuring 8” in length. The overall length of this one is 8 7/16”. The paper tub remains in good shape and was painted with green paint at one time. The side is marked "BBB” in black paint. The case mouth has a few pushes or crimps around the edge. Based on the dimensions of the shell, I would think this would be a 1 7/8” or 2” shell. A hard style to find! Headstamp: Impressed "KYNOCH / 380” on the charge and "2522” on the head.
