Z7043 U.S. Model 1863/68 Artillery Curb Bit
Description: Rare N.O.S. US Model 1863 Artillery curb bit with the 1868 tin plating. This example is still in the paper wrapper from Bannerman’s store. It has a few holes in the paper along with a few spots of rust. These started out as the M1863 Artillery curb bits during the Civil War. After the war, in accordance with Memoranda No. 9, the Ordnance Board ordered all new/old bits to be tinned. These are extremely hard to find in the original wrap. The port and inside of the cheek bars are marked "U.S.”
