Z8218 British .577 Snider Rifle Cartridge (Mark IX)
Description: Very nice cartridge known as the "Cartridge SA Ball Breech-Loading Boxer for .577-inch Snider Rifles 2 ½ DRS Mark IX.” This cartridge was approved in August of 1871. It has light brown paper cemented to a brass foil body. There are two brass cups with an iron rim. The bullet has three grooves, a clay plug in the base, and a spun over nose cavity. There is a brass battery cup with a copper primer. The easiest way to identify these cartridges is the single red band around the case. This is the last official British issue Snider cartridge. A nice example with light soiling and a few nominal surface dents.
