Z4968 Pre-WWI Model 1896 .38 Revolver Cartridge Box (Dated 1908)
Description: Nice clean serviceable example with a little spotting on the top and front of the flap. The top of the flap is stamped K 541 over 14. The rear of the box is also stamped K 18 along with Rock Island Arsenal, 1908, and inspector initial H.E.K. These boxes were originally dyed black until 1902. They then switched over to a russet brown color like this example. The wooden block is intact and was meant to hold a total of 12 .38 cartridges. The leather is still supple with most of the crazing on the top of the belt loops and the corners of the flap.
