Z5256 Mann's Patented Waist Belt Plate (Patented 1863)
Description: Nice excavated Civil War buckle with no issues. Per O & C, these were designed by William Mann of Detroit, Michigan while he was serving as the Colonel of the 7th Michigan Cavalry. His patent was secured as of December 8, 1863. The majority of these that I have sold over the years come from Petersburg, Virginia. This one was excavated near Petersburg. While this looks like the typical arrow hooks from a 1839 pattern buckle, this is the actual buckle.
Measures: 36 mm x 60 mm
Recovered: Near Petersburg, Virginia
