Z6574 .30 Cupfire Cartridge by Phoenix
Description: Here is a very nice and clean .30 cupfire cartridge for use with the Plant and Eagle Arms revolvers. These cartridges were originally patented by Willard C. Ellis and John N. White on July 12, 1859, as Patent No. 24,726. The edge of the cup held the fulminate much like the rim of a rimfire. This allowed Ellis and White to circumvent the Rollin White and Smith & Wesson patents.
This cartridge was manufactured by the Phoenix Metallic Cartridge Company of South Coventry, Connecticut. They were packaged in boxes of 50 labeled as the No. 30 cartridge. A very nice example with a Phoenix headstamp and a deep cannelure on the casing.
