Z7061 British Pattern 1853 Enfield Bayonet
Description: Very nice original British Pattern 1853 Enfield bayonet and scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Broad Arrow / WD / Crown / E / 1.” This translates to ownership of the British War Department, manufactured at Enfield and inspected by sub inspector No. 1. This is a true British bayonet and was not meant to be imported into the United Dates during the American Civil War but is of the Era. The side of the socket is marked "525” which is more than likely a rack number.
The triangular blade is still bright with dark spotting here and there. There is very little light surface rust, and it should clean up nicely. The socket is bright with a few areas of light to medium surface rust towards the back.
The scabbard is excellent! It measures 18.25” in length and still has bright fittings. There is a little oxidation on the brass throat and a small dent on the back of the scabbard tip. The leather retains the majority of the black finish with a few small surface chips or flakes. The stitching is tight across the entire top edge.
Overall, it's an excellent British Enfield bayonet that was well cared for throughout the years. More than likely, it was stored in a trunk as it doesn’t have the usual traits of being handled.
Measures: OAL 21.75” with scabbard OAL 20.5” BL 17.5” SL 3”
