Z8413 .50/38 Experimental Cartridge by Winchester (1875)
Description: Nice example of an early .50-38 Winchester experimental cartridge developed around 1875. Foster states, "Somewhere around 1875 Winchester apparently had a new gun in mind, for there was developed a series of cartridges of peculiar nomenclature, the .56/45, .56/42, .50/40, and .50/38.” This example has a flat nose, lead bullet. The case is bottlenecked and it has a small brass primer.
