Z8690 .44 Lipfire Cartridge for Allen & Wheelock Revolver
Description: Decent, large caliber lip-fire cartridge manufactured under U.S. Patent No. 30,109 dated September 25, 1860. This is the largest size out of the four available calibers. It was intended to be used in the .44 Allen & Wheelock revolver. These are .44 caliber but were packaged as the No. 58 cartridges and then standardized to the No. 44 later. This example has an oxidized bullet with two raised bands. The copper case appears to have been lacquered at some point and "44 Lipfire / 1860” is written on the side. This would make an excellent addition to any patent ignition cartridge collection!
