Z5967 Fired .52 Sharps Carbine Bullet
Description: Fired .52 Sharps carbine bullet recovered from what is known as the Hauser Farm. This item was recovered prior to the NPS purchasing the property.
The Hauser Farm is located between Mondell Road and Maryland 65. It was located on the edge of what became known as the West Woods. This is the area where Sedgwick’s 2nd Corps (15th Mass. and the 82nd New York) fought against Semmes and Jackson. The high point of this farm is known as Hauser’s Ridge and was used as a Confederate Artillery position by Pelham’s batteries. This farm was privately owned by Joe Bell at the time these items were dug. The National Park Service now owns a portion of the farm located by Maryland 65 and it is now illegal to recover items from this location.
